The new year has brought new dreams and aspirations for all of our WOL bosses, but the majority of our goals require confidence in ourselves. Although confidence allows us to feel self-assurance in our ability to accomplish what we wish, it’s a long process in attaining it. To make things simple, we have three tips to best boost your confidence.
1. Positive Affirmations
Positive affirmations are a way of building confidence because they combat any negative self-talk or feelings you may have about yourself. Essentially, a positive affirmation is an uplifting phrase or statement about yourself, whether it’s about your appearance, personality, etc. An affirmation can be spoken and/or written into existence based on your preference. Speaking or writing a positive statement after having a negative thought about yourself helps condition your mind to focus on the good rather than the bad. Here are a few examples:
“I love myself”
“I am worth it”
“I believe in myself”
“I forgive myself for my mistakes”
“I am unique and beautiful”
2. Setting Goals
Setting and accomplishing goals outside of your comfort zone is essential in creating confidence in yourself and your abilities. Comfort zones vary person to person but are described as feeling safe or familiar to a given situation. For this reason, stepping outside of your comfort zone often feels frightening because it involves some type of risk into the unknown. However, when you take those steps, you prove to yourself that you’re more than capable of doing anything you put your mind to. It’s best to start small so you aren’t entirely overwhelmed in the process. Any step, big or small, will have a positive impact on your confidence and the way you see your potential.
3. Journaling
Journaling is a great tool. It’s okay to fail or have a bad day, and your journal is there to release any frustration or negativity. By releasing the “downs,” you’re able to focus more on the “ups” capable of coming your way. Journals are useful in writing your positive affirmations, as well as writing your personal goals. Over time, you’ll see the growth within yourself compared to when you started. Try journaling once a day to see your progress, and you’ll see the impact it has on your confidence and self-image.
Building confidence definitely takes time, but it’s possible for anyone and everyone. The best time to start is now because you deserve to feel like the boss you are.
